About
Born in the province of Venice, Denis De Liberali began studying piano at the age of five with Luigi Malvestio. In 2017, he graduated with honors in piano from the “Cesare Pollini” Conservatory in Padua. He has taken part in numerous national and international competitions, collaborating with major concert institutions, including the Premio Venezia 2018 at Teatro La Fenice in Venice, the Mendelssohn Conducting Competition in Prague, and the Musica Insieme International Competition in Musile di Piave. He also worked as accompanist at the 1st National Operetta Competition BOT in Brussels.
He began his conducting studies with Maestro Giuliano Medeossi (with the Orchestra of the Padua Conservatory) and later with Maestro Massimo Lambertini (assistant conductor to Riccardo Muti). In 2018, he earned a Master’s degree as pianist and opera répétiteur from the Belcanto Opera Academy, where he was awarded a Certificate of Merit.
De Liberali has collaborated with many singers and opera directors, among them Mirella Freni, Leo Nucci, William Matteuzzi, Marianne Pousseur, Enrico Bagnoli, and Marcel Vanaud. He holds a Master’s degree in Orchestral Conducting and a specialized Master’s in Opera Conducting from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, where he studied under conductor Robin Engelen.
As a soloist and chamber musician, he has performed in venues such as Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Smetana Hall in Prague, Teatro Obihall in Florence, and the Auditorium in Lugano, among others. He has also appeared with several symphony and chamber orchestras.
His work as assistant conductor has taken him to the Théâtre National in Brussels, the Opéra Royal de Wallonie in Liège, and the Théâtre Louis-Jouvet in Paris. As a conductor, he has led ensembles including the chamber orchestra of Teatro alla Scala (i Cameristi della Scala), the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège at the Salle Philharmonique, the Shumen Symphony Orchestra at the State Philharmonic Hall, and the Philharmonie of Razgrad, as well as numerous other orchestras at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, the Musical Instrument Museum, the Théâtre National de Bruxelles, the Opéra Royal de Wallonie, the Italian Embassy in Brussels, and the Italian Cultural Institute in Brussels, where he was appointed principal conductor of the Chamber Orchestra for the 2022 season.
In 2019, he conducted the Belgian premiere of Marius Constant’s La Tragédie de Carmen at the European Parliament’s Salle de Glace. Since 2023, he has served as Artistic Director of the concert season at the Foyer Européen in Brussels.
In May 2025, Denis De Liberali was awarded the Respighi Prize by the Chamber Orchestra of New York, which led to his conducting debut at Carnegie Hall.
